Check out this great video
Pere is a second generation Irish Draught Sport horse. His sire, Taproot Dutch Diamond, was a homebred here. TDD was sired by It's the Luck of the Irish, a Class 1 RID known to pass his generous temperament and jumping ability to a wide range of mares, producing versatile all-round mounts for both juniors and adults. It's the Luck of the Irish combined the Grade A showjumping lines of Flagmont King with champion show lines of Maggie's Last, stemming from the great Suma Stud. Dutch Treatt, his dam, was leased from Flying Chesterfield Farm and foaled many successful champion dressage horses.
We were fortunate to add Pere's dam, Happy Lark to our band when she was 18 years old. She gave us both Pere and another colt named Taproot Diamond Hawk which was sold as a weanling. She was part of a very small legacy of the Grade A RID show jumper, Happy Ending.
He was born approximately a month early. While he was strong and mighty, tragically we lost his dam shortly after birth. We bottle raised him as an orphan. That same year, we lost his sire in an accident. There was no question that we would be keeping Pere to continue the legacy of Taproot Dutch Diamond.
Pere continues to impress us with his movement, balance, reflex and inquisitive mind. He's a playful horse, but never nasty or mean.
